“April is the kindest month. April gets you out of your head and out working in the garden.”
― Marty Rubin

April is one of my favorite months. Both of my children were born in April, my parents anniversary is in April, my sister in laws birthday…it’s always a busy month. However, its means that January, February and March are over. These are tough months for me personally and professionally. Personally, there are too many sad anniversaries. Professionally, we work long hours and the store is super busy. We are grateful for the rush yet also grateful for the calmness of April where everything seems to go just a little bit slower.

We are still working out updates on the website. Rosh, our website designer, is about to be a Dad, so he’s been busy helping Mom get things together.

Here in the store we are taking inventory physically and mentally. What do we want to build, launch? We’ve looked at your responses from past emails and appreciate the feedback.

We are looking forward to our Signature Scent Class where we make our own perfumes. The rare oils have arrived from South Africa and Slovenia and we couldn’t be happier. We are in talks with two brands from out west where we will trade our products with small businesses like ours. We are super excited about this collaboration.

I am back in Chemistry classes at night for my continuing education units. So much research has been done in the past two years it’s unbelievable. This info will definitely be put to work soon!

Thank you as always for your support. It means a lot to us!

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil and Neuropathy Pain

In May 2022 the Journal of Ethnopharmacology published a study on the essential oil Ylang Ylang otherwise known as Cananga odorata on pain and anxiety related symptoms with people with neuropathic pain.

Neuropathic pain from various issues (cancer related, idiopathic, diabetic, peripheral) affects approximately 7-10 percent of the world's population. Safe and effective treatments are not always available and do not work on many people. This led researchers to try to find more plant based ways to assist with the issues that come with neuropathic pain such as quality of life issues and anxiety and depression related to having the condition.

Linalool and Caryophyllene are two of the chemical constituents that are in a somewhat high percentage in Ylang Ylang Oil. These are two constituents that are well studied for both pain and anxiety.

It seems to make sense then that the study the researchers did with mice showed that the Ylang Ylang oil used in mice reduced neuropathic pain within 28 days. The study also reduced inflammation markers.

Ylang Ylang has been used for many years in the areas of anxiety and hypertension as well. This study, although done on mice, shows that there may be another place for this oil in the therapeutic arena.

Ylang Ylang oil comes from the Cananga odorata tree. It comes in a variety of ways. Ylang Ylang oil has 5 different types of oils it distills: Ylang Ylang Extra, Ylang Ylang 1, Ylang Ylang 2, Ylang Ylang 3 and Ylang Ylang Complete. These are based on how many times the plant is distilled.

Typically this oil is a floral perfume type smell. We have found that many people feel very strangely about this oil. Most people either love the smell of the oil or absolutely despise it.

Either way, this research is great to know that there may be yet another type of therapy to support neuropathy and its associated symptoms.

WEBSITE ISSUES AND UPDATES

(We’ve fixed it, we hope)

The New Website is LIVE!

Thank you all who came and checked out our new website! As we will constantly be making tweaks to it, we wanted to let you know some of the new benefits available.

  • Our herbal deep dives are now online! Add the kit if you would like to get all the herbs shipped to you!

  • Check out our free webinars where Meredith gets on Zoom with different guests or hosts some very informative Tea Times in a laid back manner. This is the time to jump on and ask all of your Aromatic and Herbal questions.

  • Our Faeve Naked Oil line is up and running. Check out these prices and follow our social media for SM only coupons!

It has also been brought to our attention that some of you had gift cards from the store that were not able to be used online. We apologize for this and want to explain and offer solutions.

We have used our web platform for online sales for over 5 years. This is not a program that translates well to retail. So for our retail location we had to get a specialized retail platform. However, just like many programs, these two don’t like each other and will not speak with each other.

We understand how frustrating this is, especially since in general, there will be more online sales than in store. The online store has much more capacity to offer discounts and specials.

Our solution to this problem is the following:

  • If you have a Faeve Gift Card and would like to use it online, please come to the store or call the store at 352-753-2787 and let us know what you would like to do. We will then run that gift card as it has been paid for in store. We will then give you a digital code just for you to use.

For Example: Mary Brown comes in and her daughter has sent her a $75 dollar gift certificate. She would prefer to use it online and have everything shipped to her home in Iowa. She can call the store and give us the card number we can run here and then email her a specialized code for the website like MBROWN75, which would give her $75.00 credit on the website. This should fix that issue.

  • The other issue that we came across were people who wanted to order online to get the sale and then pick it up in store when it was convenient for them. We understand this as well. That is why we now have a discount code called:

INSTOREPICKUP

This code will give you packing and pick up in store. We will contact you via email or text when your order is ready. If you use this code and then afterwards you want it shipped, we will have to charge you full USPS price as the shipping discount we can get through our platform is not available.

We hope that as we grow locally and country wide, these changes will help and assist our locals and those who just love to vacation in our local area.

Cold Process Soap in Ready!

Faeve’s DIY Soap Class is our all time favorite. When we do the class, we use melt and pour soap bases. We do this for its ease of use.

Cold process soap is another way to make soap that starts with ingredients from scratch and uses lye to then bind them. Cold process soap can be very dangerous if you do not know how to handle the lye in the process. Many people have tried (us included) to make cold process soap and it comes out to look like something rather rough and disgusting.

There is also an issue of fragrance here. In melt and pour soap, the heat of the melting and cooling can sometimes evaporate essential oil. This is why we use fragrance oil in our soap class and not essential oils.

We have been asked on more than one occasion to make cold process soap. We have made it for certain contracts but never for the end consumer.

At the time of this writing, our cold process soap is finally cured. Curing can take weeks and in Florida even longer. We used a total of 283 ounces of material to make the soap.

Ingredients in this soap are:

Lye

Lavender hydrosol

Apricot Kernel Oil

Avocado Oil

Cocoa Butter

MCT Oil

Coconut Oil

Olive Oil

Jojoba Oil

We then added an essential oil of Lavender that we knew was adulterated for therapeutic use. This makes it better than fragrance oil but also not as synthetic. We topped this soap off with fresh Rosemary from our gardens and dried lavender flowers.

The end result is beautiful. All of these ingredients besides the lye, MCT Oil And fragrance are organic and pure. This is the purest soap we have ever had in the store.

Due to the nature of this soap, once it's gone, it’s gone. Next week we will make another batch. We don’t know until we start what will go in there to start. We are offering it to you though the website before it is advertised on social media and put out on store shelves. To purchase click here.

We hope you enjoy. We can’t wait for the next box!

Herb Deep Dive: Plantain (Plantago major)

This month we are going to do a deep dive into the herb many of us know as Plantain or Plantago major.

Plantain originated in Europe but has now been found all over the world. It has a bitter taste and is high in Vitamin K. There are no other known issues with Plantain and other pharmaceutical drugs that have been proven.

Plantain really shines in the areas of the urinary tract and digestive system. It’s also been reported as acceptable for treatments for the kidneys.

Plantain is known as its action to “line” parts of the body in ways of healing. So if you think of the urinary tract, it lines and then uses its astringent properties, removing parts of the infection and then protecting the lining to promote healing.

This is a useful plant in the treatment of Leaky Gut Syndrome. This is a rather new application of this herb, however, research and studies are getting good results. The thought process is that Plantain is known for its properties of healing as it’s going through your digestive and urinary tract. This then leads us to believe that Leaky Gut syndrome which is thought of as a wound in the stomach lining, can now find some relief. Even a small case of Leaky Guy syndrome can lead to other conditions such as arthritis, depression, allergies etc that the body was not conditioned to have otherwise.

Understanding the effects of Plantain on the body as an astringent and demulcent one can see why this is a go to herb for the Urinary Tract, Leaky Gut Syndrome, Digestive Track and superior in any type of wound care. This herb is known to be used as a poultice or compress on bug bites, bee stings and even snake bites while waiting for medical care. The astringent action of this herb will draw out toxins and infections from the skin.

This is also a great plant to consider in dental care. This is especially a go to for canker sores. Mouth ulcers caused by a variety of conditions and cools down any heat caused by mouth infections.

Here at Faeve, we have always used Plantain in our digestive formulas and for those looking for urinary tract infection support. However, with this new research on Leaky Guy, this will be added to out herbal formulation for conditions caused by Leaky Gut.

New Program!

In the past we had our “Speaker Series”. We heard a lot of feedback about how people couldn’t make the dates and times. We also heard how much they did love them when they could get there.

In the essence of keeping up with technology, we will now be doing these over Zoom, for free, in the evening.

Our lick off Zoom starts in May. Our first speaker will be the ever popular Dylan Pate from Ortho Molecular. OM is one of the largest pharmaceutical grade supplement companies in the US.

Our first Zoom will be Dylan speaking about “Functional Wellness: What you truly need on a dally basis”.

The best part of this is that you can come to him with your personal questions: what’s the difference between a 20 billion probiotic vs a 200 billion? Should I take a daily vitamin that has 200iu of Vitamin D and then another one at 5000 iu? No question regarding supplementation is off limits.

This is free to whomever would like to join. However, you do need to register to get the link. Please click here to register. If you find that you cannot make the May 4th date, but would like to hear or see the webinar, please register anyway. We ill be recording the webinar and will send the link to the recording to anyone that registers, whether you attended or not.

However, there will be a discount code for certain items from OM that Dylan gives us for these. These codes will only be available to those that show up to the actual webinar.

Look forward to seeing you online soon!

Sad News….

It is with great regret that we have news regarding our therapeutic Tea line. Our Digestive Tea, Pain Tea, Sleep Tea and Adaptogen Tea are some of the most popular products in our store and online.

During our year inventory for our taxes, we realized that in 2023 the price of our herbs went up significantly. Truly, it wasn’t the herbs, but the shipping to us. Our herb process went up less than 3%, but our shipping cost skyrocketed.

We try very hard to keep our prices the same. The rest of our lines haven’t changed and fingers crosses, won’t. However, we are stuck between a rock and hard place here.

So our $25.00 bags of herbal therapeutic formulas will be $32.00 which is still just covering our cost with a very small markup. These are definitely lean products at this time.

So, we will be changing these prices May 1st. If you are low on any of these products, please stock up now. If you are looking to stock up for a ling time, you can put the bags into a mason jar or an air sealer. Once they are air sealed, they can be frozen for 2 months.
