So we go to the next month of 2023! It looks like our winter is over (fingers crossed) and here in The Villages, our busy season is starting up.

If you read our last newsletter, you know that our word of the year was "Expand". We want to thank those who made their custom blends to their name!

Our "Expand" is very much in the business. You will be seeing new "drops" of information from us as we wrap up some major expansion plans. We are not moving, so no worries, but there will be some other surprises.

We want to thank Jean Schaich for her Crystal Healing Program last month. She really went above and beyond in gifts for our participants and so much education on her craft. Thanks again Jean!

In the essence of our word "Expand" we also want to know what you are customers and readers want to see here. Please read the whole way through for a chance to tell us what you think!

2023 is off to a great start! Thank you all for helping that happen!

Do Essential Oils Expire?

A common question we hear in the store is “I have a bunch of oil, I don’t know how to use them. Do they ever expire?”

No worries, we have you covered. Whether you bought a kit from an EO company or just love all the little bottles, we have some general guidelines as to when essential oils should be thrown out.

It is important to know that oils that are “expired” do not have to get thrown in the trash. It really just means that they could be oxidized (oxygen in bottle), or that enough time has elapsed that chemistry has changed. This means that their therapeutic value is probably not quite what it was. This means you do not want to use the oil in a therapeutic manner, meaning topically or direct inhalation and certainly not ingestion.

However, you can clean with them. You can add them to vinegar and clean with them. See below for a quick recipe on how to do that.

You also can add all the oils into one bottle and use them for insect repellent. Again, you can add to a spray bottle of vinegar or just drop a few drops of oil in the corner of your home. My house is particularly prone to sugar ants. I simply drop a few drops into each corner of the windowsill and the ants seem to stay away.

Another option is to take the expired oils that smell good (citruses for example) and drop a few drops on your air conditioner filter.

Last but not least, some of us take the oils, make them into blends and use them in our meditation practices. Spraying some water with expired oils on a yoga mat is always helpful.

Here are some common expiration dates for common oils and their main chemical constituents after the oil is opened. This research was gathered from Scott Johnson, ND, author of multiple books on essential oils and safety and applications.

Fighting the Flu? Don't Want the Flu? Read this!

In November 2022, the medical journal Molecules published a 27 page review of over 181 studies that had been completed relating to essential oils and the flu. Many of you know that essential oils are really just organic plant compaunds and when they are studied they are studied by the chemical consitiuents and the reaction of a certain chemical constituent to an outside source.
However, in light of making things easier, we have listed the Top 6 oils that were studied with positibe results.

Cinnamon Oil: Inhibited the growth of the virus (Type A). This was though inhalation.
Eucalyptus Oil (globous): Inhalation with the flu vaccine provided cross protection against Type A and B. Having a aroma stick with just Eucalyptus 3 days before and after your flu vaccine would be beneficial to activity of vaccine.
Tea Tree Oil: Antiviral activity in Flu Type A, sub type H1N1. Researcher's believe this is due to terpinen-4-ol constituent.
Melissa Oil: Stopped virus replication. Using EO Melissa with pharmaceutical drug Tamiflu, showed synergetic activity with the virus replication. Makes us wonder if Lemon Balm tea would have the same type of response as that is were that oil is from.
Anise Oil: Showed intercellular activity against the flu A virus in infected cells.
Patchouli: Same as Anise, increased survival time in mice with the virus.
Clary Sage: Inhibited virus activity in Flu A and stopped the formation of new cells.

It seems that most of the activity was though inhalation. We will be making a "mother extract" of this blend for inhalers. Please just contact us if you would like one. Otherwise, come to the store and we will have it in the back for quick blending. With so many seasonal visitors around us here in Florida and so many of us travelling, having this protection is a no brainer!

"EXPAND" News

For those of you in any type of business, you know how daunting building a website is. Like Faeve, our website grew until it couldn't anymore. So we had to change tracks. Customers were getting frustrated with us because what we did in the store wasn't reflected online.

When we started up years ago, we thought of our website more as a simple storefront, what we learned is that it needs to be a whole house. We had the foundation but we didn't have the pretty paint colors, or the personal touches. So after a lot of research and thought, we did something we thought we never would do,...we farmed it out. My mother has an old saying "lipstick on a pig" and we did not want that to be this.

During our first meeting with our web designer we told him all of our ideas. Some of them were "way out there". We had been told "that's just not possible" from other designers. Our web designer Rosh said "that's not correct" and off we went. Within the first few days we got the first mock up. Rachel and Kate went wide eyed and mouth opened, Meredith just burst into tears. He nailed it.

This isn't just a new website, this is an immersive experience. It's not just about "shopping", it's about learning, engaging and being part of something bigger than ourselves in science and chemistry. It's about the state of our consciousness, and the science of consciousness itself.

We are scheduled to launch the new site in March. This gives everyone time to get used to it and for us on the back end to keep making dreams come true...which is where the next part of this newsletter is going.

As we "Expand" into this next part of our lives in this business, we really want your input. You will see a poll at the end of this newsletter. Please consider giving us your opinion.

Thank you for helping us "Expand"!

Speaker Series 2023
On Thursday February 2, 2023 Dylan Pate from Ortho-Molecular products, our Pharmaceutical Grade Vitamin supplier, will be in the store to speak about Heart Health.

This is a great time to really understand what supplements do for your heart. Do you need COQ10 or Niacin? What's the deal if you have high CRP? Goodness gracious, why are there so many types of Fish Oils and what do all those numbers mean?

As a gift to you, all orders placed on Thursday will get 15% discount off of retail price. You will be able to order and pay at the store for delivery next week. You do have to be present to get the discount. No phone orders will be accepted.

Please email below to reserve your seat. Although this is a free event, we need to know how many chairs we need to put out. Thank you.

2023 Faeve Poll

We want to know what you want! Do you want more products? Classes? Interactive activities in person or online? We want to know. As we have now "given space" for us to grow as other policies and procedures are finally settled.

We also know that time in money. Therefore, we will be giving a special discount to those who fill out the poll. You will get a special month long discount code for the month of your choosing from April to December. This means you can save your discount code for a certain month if you wish. You will then be put into a raffle for a $50.00 gift card or website credit. Just like they say about the lottery "you have to be in it to win it!".

Thank you again for your time and patience and helping this small business come into its teenage years.
